1) We are currently planning our second annual July 4 Red, White, Blue & Green Party - last year's was a blast, and a great success. Joe Kissell is coordinating with Avogadro's Number on food and music. I have been asked to emcee again. We need a lot of help - publicity (flyer and press release), tabling materials (we need to update and print our 10 Key Values business cards and/or brochure), staffing the tabling, and helping with the return of our (drum roll please) Green Giant Awards!
At our last meeting, we tossed around a lot of names of local environmental and social justice heroes. We will finalize the list at our next meeting, then contact the people to come, print awards, do publicity etc. If you have any ideas of who should win, or want to help decide, please come to our next meeting:
Thursday, June 19, David and Susan's house in Timnath, 7-9 pm.
Please contact me by email or cell phone (214-4548) to help with this project, find out more info, or get directions to the next meeting.
2) Representative John Kefalas' amended bill (HB08-1378) to allow cities and counties to use ranked voting methods in their elections was signed into law by Governor Ritter recently. Now we need to get cities like Fort Collins to agree to use Instant Runoff Voting locally, both as a good reform and a step to statewide and national use. John is hoping to bring people together locally to start the ball rolling. Here is an excerpt from a recent email:
I am hoping that you and other Greens will participate in a local meeting in the next week or two to discuss how we can get FC to participate.
Who's up for meeting with John and other local folks interested in IRV/city voting reform? Stay tuned....
