Are we trying to get people like the writer of the letter reproduced
below (from today's Fort Collins Coloradoan) involved with the Greens?

Pontification is simplistic

Re: Erin Stephenson's essay on Democratic disconnect (Nov. 8): Why would
she take the word of a few higher-ups in any political party and attempt
to tar the entire party with that brush? That is much too simplistic. It
places her firmly in the same constellation as those whose statements to
which she objects.
The leadership of both major political parties are disconnected from
reality, as well as from the majority in their own constituencies.

That's why Mike Miles triumphed at the state convention over party-pick
Ken Salazar. And why party leadership then concocted a grand attack on
Miles and his supporters, instead of making any attempt to bring some of
the party's hardest-working folks back into the party fold.

It's why Karl Rove and the Republican leadership concentrated on bringing
in the far-right vote, when they know that a healthy majority of their
members disagree with the administration's prosecution of the war, tax
cuts, the economy and women's right to choice, among many other issues.

Both parties discounted the voters in the vast majority of states, while
they courted the votes in only 10 in the final months.

Let's face it, when we get back to "politics as usual," nothing west of
the Mississippi (except California) will show up on the screen in
Washington.

Both parties have lost touch. If we sit here -- or anywhere -- and
pontificate, so will we.
