Subject: [usgp-coo] Our financial situation

TO: GP-US CC members

The election is over, and the Green Party of the United States is getting
ready for the next phase of the work that must be done.

What that work is and how it will be done depend on each of us. We're
talking Grassroots Democracy, Decentralization, and Personal and Global
Responsibility here.

Our financial situation is dire. If it doesn't improve, we will have to
close the DC office and reduce our paid staff to one position - actions
that won't make it impossible to continue Green and Growing, but will
certainly make it more difficult.

As of November 1st we will be paying only three part time consultants -
our accountant, webmaster and press secretary. And we will have to
make further cut backs if our sustainer income will not support our
minimum operational budget.

We need $16,000 a month in sustainer income to cover our basic expenses.
At this time that income is only $8-9,000 a month. So we need an
average increase in sustainer income for each of the 116 CC delegates of
$70. That's just one pricey coffee a day!

Doable, right? And in oh so many ways even beyond increasing my monthly
contribution by $70. I can persuade friends to become sustainers at the
level that is affordable for them until I make that goal. I can get a
list of former sustainers in my state - many of whom were dropped when
their expiration date, card number, or address changed - and make calls
until I get to $70 per month. (And it's certainly okay if you find you
enjoy those calls and raise a lot more, too!)

The Green Party has 10 Key Values and we are striving toward making them
a reality. As a small step toward those goals, we can certainly do this
one.

Each of us on the SC has pledged to do our part. And we look forward to
hearing from each of you. I think you will agree, knowing the
consequences of failing, that we can do this and we must.

The future of our Party is in our hands. Will you help with this
responsibility and raise the $70 each month?
